About

The Edinburgh Remakery is an award-winning environmental social enterprise based in Leith, North Edinburgh. Founded in 2012, our mission is to put an end to waste by providing people and communities with the skills and opportunities to live more sustainably

how we support

people

Loneliness is still a big challenge in Edinburgh — around a third of people feel disconnected from their community, and many struggle to meet others regularly. That’s why our activity-based Community Clubs run more often than ever, giving people a chance to come together, get involved, and make friends.

Whether in our warm, welcoming Event Hub or at a partner community space, these clubs are all about joining in creative and fun activities, learning new skills, and simply enjoying being with others. It’s a safe, friendly space where people can build confidence, boost wellbeing, and feel part of something.
We believe that having access to a device and the digital world isn’t a luxury — it’s an essential part of taking part in everyday life. Just having a phone doesn’t mean you have the tools you need to learn, work, access services, or get online or thrive.

Being properly connected is a right, not a “nice to have” Our Tech Gifting Programme puts this belief into action: we refurbish donated laptops, desktops, and other devices and gift 20% of them to individuals and families referred through trusted community partners. These aren’t just gadgets — they’re the tools people need to access vital online services, learning opportunities, and stay connected with loved ones.

We work closely with local charities, schools, and community organisations to ensure the people who need tech support most can receive it.

Please Note: we can’t gift devices directly to individuals, so you’ll need to contact one of our referring organisations for a referral first.

We create real pathways into meaningful, green careers. Every role we offer is a Green Job – rooted in repair, reuse and real environmental impact. From E-Waste Operative to Hardware Repair Technician, we champion progression through hands-on learning, accredited training and apprenticeships that build industry-ready skills for the future.

Through EERI and No One Left Behind, we open doors for people facing barriers to employment – offering practical experience, trusted responsibility and the confidence that comes from doing skilled, purposeful work. We’re a flexible, understanding employer where people grow at their own pace. Our team members build more than technical expertise – they develop communication and customer service skills too, engaging directly with the public in our Repair Cafés and retail space.

We also create strong entry points through work placements and volunteering. These roles – are practical, supported opportunities to gain experience, grow confidence and take clear steps towards employment in the circular economy.

Beyond jobs, we share skills willingly. Our Community Clubs spark confidence through repair, reuse and sustainability. We teach people to maintain and upgrade their devices so they last longer. We run sewing sessions where textiles are mended, reimagined and given new life.

Everything we do builds skills, confidence and possibility – proving that when we repair and reuse, we also rebuild confidence.

how we support

the planet

Ready to waste less and make more of what you already have? We can help. If you’ve got unwanted electronics sitting in drawers or cupboards, don’t bin them. Pass them on. We’ll repair and refurbish what we can, keeping valuable materials in use and out of landfill. Anything beyond repair is responsibly recycled — nothing wasted without good reason. If you’re a business with surplus IT equipment, our secure Social IT Asset Disposition (sITAD) service lets you donate safely and confidently, protecting your data while maximising environmental impact.

And if something’s broken? Bring it along to one of our weekly Pay What You Can Repair Cafés. Learn how to maintain your tech, fix simple faults, or pick up sewing skills to mend and extend the life of your clothes.

Ending waste isn’t complicated. It starts with choosing repair over replacement — and we’re here to make that choice easier.
Our group and corporate workshops teach practical skills in mending, altering, remaking, and reimagining, using materials that would otherwise go to waste – from old books to fabric scraps. These skills provide sustainable alternatives to buying new, helping participants save money while reducing waste and conserving resources.

Alongside practical repair skills, participants build confidence, boost creativity, and improve mental wellbeing, all while learning how their actions can support a healthier planet.

Making Sustainability Simple Every new item we buy has a carbon cost. At Edinburgh Remakery, we help you reduce that impact by repairing, refurbishing, and reusing goods you already need—or by providing high-quality second-hand tech and equipment. By choosing reuse over new, you cut emissions, prevent waste from ending up in landfill, and stop harmful chemicals from polluting the environment.

Join us in championing the circular economy and make your everyday choices greener, smarter, and truly sustainable.
